About Putnam Livermore

Before World War II, Putnam Livermore was part of the UC Men’s Rowing Team that won the National Championship in 1943. After his victory he immediately enlisted in the Marine Corps. In basic training he won the heavyweight wrestling championship for the Marines. Putnam served in the Pacific and fought at Iwo Jima.

When the War was over he returned to the Cal campus to complete his education. He always believed that he learned the skills of leadership at Berkeley. As time went on Putnam became the manager of his law firm, the California State chairman of the Republican Party and founded 11 California State Parks.

About Pari Livermore

Pari Livermore‘s grandmother had been a Shakespearean actress. ‘Nona’ started reading Shakespeare to Pari when she was the age of five. Pari received 25 cents for every soliloquy and every sonnet she memorized. This knowledge made her a favorite with Dr. Jonas Barish, Cal Professor, Elizabethan Scholar and world authority on William Shakespeare and poet Ben Jonson. Professor Barish and his wife Mildred encouraged Pari to become involved in the summer Shakespeare program and to help start an Elizabethan puppet show on campus.

Pari has often thought she learned resilience at Cal and went on to write the popular book How to Marry a Fabulous Man and spent 9 years hosting the television show Everybody’s Angels. Pari is an excellent fundraiser and in the last 38 years has received 48 awards for her efforts. See awards here.
